Hans Pålsson, the pianist, is one of Sweden´s most famous and beloved concert pianists with success both in Sweden and internationally. 

He has played as soloist with conductors such as Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Evgeny Svetlanov, Sixten Ehrling, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Okko Kamu, Neeme Järvi, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Mario Venzago, Paavo Berglund and others.

He has a great breadth of his repertoire from Bach to the present day with great emphasis on classicism, including all the sonatas and piano concertos by Mozart and Beethoven.

The winter 2010 Hans Pålsson played all the 32 piano sonatas of Beethoven in Stockholm Concert Hall at 8 sold out concerts in two and a half week.

Over 60 solo works and piano concertos have been dedicated to him and he is an ambassador for the new music. 

He is well represented on LP and CD and has recorded about 25 CDs with works from all eras. 

The television series "Dead Masters, Live Music" (“I döda mästares sällskap”) where he played and talked about composers and their works, he reached out to a large part of the Swedish people. In these 30 television programs he also showed his great skills as a teacher and enthralled viewers and listeners of all ages. 

Hans Pålsson, the professor, is since 1987 professor of piano at Lund University, Malmö Academy of Music. He is a sought-after teacher in the entire Nordic region and abroad and is internationally active as a Visiting Professor at master classes. He is also a frequent juror in piano competitions. Many of his students have been very successful and become winners and laureates of international competitions. 

In 2002 he wrote the award-winning book "Thoughts on Music" (“Tankar om musik”) where he lets us look into a musicians reflections and thoughts. 

Through the years he received many prizes and awards and has been awarded the Royal Medals Litteris et Artibus and För Tonkonstens Främjande, and is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. 

Hans Pålsson, the private person, has many strings to his bow. In addition to his concerts and teaching, he has a great cultural breadth. His great interest in other art forms has resulted in cooperation with many famous artists in diverse fields. Above all, his interest in visual arts, film and literature has a major place in his life and he is a frequent visitor to art museums during his travels.

Biography

  • Born 1949 in Sweden.

  • Piano studies with Robert Riefling and Hans Leygraf in Denmark, Norway and Germany. Hans Pålsson was graduated as soloist at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hannover, Germany in 1972.

  • Concerts in more than 20 countries.

  • Soloist with conductors like Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Evgenij Svetlanov, Sixten Ehrling, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Okko Kamu, Neeme Järvi, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Mario Venzago, Paavo Berglund.

  • 2012 The Gerard Manley Hopkins Society Achivement Award in Ireland.

  • Dedicatee of more than 60 solo pieces and piano concertos.
